Jorge A. Colón is a media and entertainment lawyer and the founder of FAMECOUNSEL. He has held senior global legal roles at major media companies, including NBC Universal, Telemundo, Viacom, and CNN.At CNN—part of WarnerMedia and later Warner Bros. Discovery—Jorge served as Lead News Media Counsel for APAC, LATAM, and Sports. He advised CNN’s Spanish-language news operation, Asia-Pacific bureaus, and global sports coverage. He also built “Lucy,” the legal department’s first AI tool, to support fair-use requests across more than 80 countries.Previously, as Senior Counsel for Business and Legal Affairs at Viacom International Media Networks, Jorge managed legal and business matters across Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market. His work included negotiating regional carriage agreements and licensing Viacom content to Netflix for Latin America. At NBC Universal, based at Telemundo in Miami, he served as senior media counsel for the NBC network, several NBC-owned stations, and Telemundo’s stations and network news operation. At American Media, he was Deputy General Counsel (Media), overseeing pre-publication review. Earlier, as Corporate Counsel, he managed a portfolio of more than 2,000 trademarks in 140 countries.Jorge’s counterparties have included multinational technology and entertainment companies, foreign government authorities, and counsel for leading Hollywood talent.He began his legal career as a law clerk to the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and founded his first Miami law firm in 1994. He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and is a member of The Florida Bar.Born in the United States, Jorge was raised in London and Switzerland by his mother, fashion designer Lydia, and his Argentine artist stepfather. Lydia invented the Infinite Dress, a single garment that can be styled in many ways, and received a U.S. patent for it in 1976. Jorge is producing a documentary about her. He has also lived in South Africa, Canada, and Europe.
