OUR FOUNDER
Jorge Colón, Esq., guides and supports businesses, talent, and investor/collectors in the Fashion, Arts, Media & Entertainment through a unique blend of industry specific legal experience and growing up in a family in these industries.
Businesses in Media, Entertainment, and Fashion are guided and supported from starting up, to established ventures negotiating deals, in all contractual relationships, and protecting all their IP. Talent, including artists, athletes, and all stage performers, are personally guided in negotiating with employers or buyers, on protecting their IP, media relations, and negotiating strategic deals for your career success. Investors in and collectors of art, including museums, are guided and supported in structuring deals and estates to acquire, sell, or preserve art collections.
Jorge has real world experience in these industries working as lead counsel in media, entertainment, and publishing companies. He also grew up in the fashion industry in London with a mother who was a pioneer in women’s fashion, and has a lifetime of art education from a father who was a lawyer and painter in the American Abstract Expressionist movement.
Jorge grew up in England and Switzerland. He fulfilled his family legacy of at least one family member in each generation studying law when he graduated from Georgetown Law in 1992. He is part of a 100+ year legacy of lawyers. His wife, Mayra Colón, comes from a family of lawyers. Law and professional service is in their family DNA.
Experience
Jorge has 23 years of experience in Media & Entertainment, publishing, and technology. In the 90s, he was the judicial law clerk to the Chief Judge of a United States District Court upon graduation from a top 10 law school, Georgetown Law. He founded the Miami law firm of Trainor, Colón and Rivera, and continued to serve as General Counsel to a private equity venture, and as counsel at Whittman-Hart, a billion dollar technology company in Chicago.
Since 2000, in the media & entertainment industry, he was part of General Electric (GE) legal department at their NBC Universal division. He was also lead media counsel at Telemundo Networks, Sr Counsel at Viacom International Media Networks (including MTV, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central). Jorge was also the lawyer for the tabloids, including the lawyer for The National Enquirer, Star Magazine, Globe, HollywoodLife.com, Gossip Extra, and Radar Online.
Jorge has decades of experience with start-ups and innovation as the Founder of the internationally recognized legal bar association, The Online Bar. He spent 2 years as co-Founder of the now shuttered start-up Famebook. He has launched several lean start-ups himself from Consumer Counselors, and Copreneurs.org, to SCALE (Social Capital Accelerator for Leaders and Entrepreneurs), and Lexpreneur. In 2013, his team at Stanford’s Technology Start-Up online class came 2nd out of hundreds of teams around the world, and he served as a mentor to other teams in 2014.
Education
Jorge attended Hill House (famous for educating Prince Charles, Duke of Wales) and at Dulwich College (an Eton group school) in London, England. In the US, he received scholarships and grants to attend, Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C.
He also has extensive business training from Instituto De Empresa (ranked #1 Business school in the world) in Spain, and from George Washington University’s Masters Program for Professional Service Firms.
Personal
Mr. Colón was born in the USA and was raised in England and Switzerland. He has also lived in Paris, France, Cape Town, South Africa, Toronto, Canada, and Bratislava, Slovakia.
He served as an entrepreneur mentor at Law Without Walls from 2013-2016. He was also a mentor to several Global Teen Leaders from the We Are Family Foundation, also owners of the TedxTeen franchise.
He is a sports fan and season ticket holder of the Orlando City MLS Soccer Club. He collects abstract and contemporary art, and enjoys the business and legal aspects of arts and antiquities. He lives with his wife of 15 years and employment lawyer at Harris Corporation Mayra Colón. Jorge and Mayra live Orlando, Florida.
